On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Avans University of Applied Sciences will host NewBee Fest, part of the fourth edition of the Week of Economics Education. In the Atrium at the Onderwijsboulevard campus in ’s-Hertogenbosch, lecturers, researchers, and students from higher economics education will come together to discuss the future of economics education. They will share both the challenges they face and the inspiring developments that offer hope for the years to come.
Creating Value Together for a Wellbeing Economy
It’s no coincidence that the sector plan for economics education is titled “Creating Value Together for a Wellbeing Economy.” Within Dutch higher economic education, there is a strong and growing belief that students should be equipped to contribute to a wellbeing economy.
This means not only understanding financial value, but also developing a deep awareness of ecological and social dimensions.
Many lecturers share this vision, but at the same time wonder how to translate it into their own teaching practice. NewBee Fest offers a platform for sharing ideas, experiences, and inspiration around this very challenge.
Exchange and Inspiration
The national HBO Day of the Week of Economics Education is all about sharing knowledge. Education professionals from across the country come together to explore how to shape future-proof economics education at the classroom level.
Last year, several Avans lecturers and researchers made active contributions to the programme. Their insights inspired colleagues from other universities of applied sciences — and in return, new perspectives and research findings found their way into programmes throughout the Netherlands.
This year promises to be just as inspiring. The programme is being developed in collaboration with other universities of applied sciences, as well as with study programmes within Avans itself.
