Since August 2025, Gieljan has been working as a lecturer-researcher within the New Entrepreneurship research group. In addition, he is active as a lecturer and coach in Business Administration at the Academy for Management & Finance, and as a developer for the master’s program Data Driven Business.

Expertise

Gieljan’s background lies in the field of information management. His expertise primarily focuses on research into the bridging role between business and IT/data solutions. He enjoys working on improving processes using (the latest) technologies, aiming to contribute to the wellbeing economy in a pragmatic way and from the perspective of (SME) organizations.

Research

Gieljan is currently involved in the Smart Data Solutions project. This research aims to demonstrate that the use of no-code/low-code software presents opportunities for companies seeking to take steps in digital transformation, but lacking the in-house technical knowledge to do so.
He is also active as a curriculum developer for the joint master’s program Data Driven Business by Avans and Fontys.

Career

After completing his Master’s in Information Management at Tilburg University, Gieljan began his career in 2013 as a business analyst in the financial sector. In this role, he acted as a bridge between business and IT. Although he gained valuable experience, over time he felt a growing need to make a more meaningful societal impact through his work.

In 2018, he therefore made the switch to the healthcare and IT sector. In a similar role, he contributed to the digitalization of primary healthcare.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 reinforced his desire to work in a field that truly resonated with him. That year, he transitioned into education and began teaching in the Business Administration program at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda — a role he still greatly enjoys today.
Since August 2025, he has combined this position with his work as a lecturer-researcher at the New Entrepreneurship research group and as a developer within the Data Driven Business master’s program.

Gieljan on wellbeing economy:

I am eager to contribute to enabling regional SMEs with innovative solutions to continue growing independently, so they can (continue to) contribute to the wellbeing economy.
